The Five Most Scientifically Plausible Science Fiction Movies

I fall into the 'So what?' camp for scientifically plausible Science Fiction. Remember when Obi-Wan was chasing Jango Fett through the asteroids in Star Wars Attack of the Clones? I loved the sound they made when they blew up! My pragmatic husband said, "There is no sound in the vacuum of space." And I'm like, "So the stink what?! It's so cool!" Little wonder JURASSIC PARK is the only one of the five movies I liked.
.
Anyway, here's the article- http://news.yahoo.com/s/newsarama/20081107/en_newsarama/the5mostscientificallyplausiblescifimovies

Thanks for the link, Kimber An! I LOVE science fiction movies, even the ones with implausible science, but it's pretty cool to see which movies got the science pretty close to being right.

And I'm with you... that sound in Attack of the Clones was amazing. Though... [cough] that was about the only thing I liked about that movie. ;)

Hi KimberAn!
Great article. Thanks for posting the URL. I particularly like 2001. Who can ever forget HAL? "I wouldn't do that Dave." BWAHAHAH...

Hi, fangirl!

Oh, yes, we've discussed ATTACK here a couple of times. http://youngadultsciencefiction.blogspot.com/2008/10/kimber-fixes-star-wars-attack-of-clones.html I think the sticking point for me was that it *could* have been so much better. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I really *wanted* it to be completely wonderful. It does help to watch the deleted scenes on the DVD and read the novel. It fills in a lot of stuff the movie story lacks so that it all makes more sense. I thought the special effects and costumes were outstanding. Anakin and Obi-Wan were both drop-jaw gorgeous and Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) has a sexy walk.

Hi, Frances! How could anyone forget Hal? Well, by never watching the movie in the first place. Sorry! I confess. It's just that the premise never interested me. Can explain way. Millions of people of all ages absolutely adore the HARRY POTTER stories too and I've never been interested enough to even crack open one of those books. Why does my daughter hate mushrooms when I love them?

Great link! Plausible SF movies can feed our minds; the rest can feed our hearts.

Kimber An,
You've got a point. If you haven't watched 2001, you can't remember HAL. The movie starts off slowly, but the tension builds to an almost unbareable level as HAL seems to go crazy and start killing people.
